Marc Leishman wins Travelers Golf Championship with a 62 in Final Round

Marc Leishman, the 6’2″ 28-year-old Australian who had never won on the PGA Tour, put together a stunning score of 8 birdies and no bogies on the final round of the 2012 Travelers Championship today. Greg Norman and now Marc Leishman are the only Australians who have won a Travelers Championship.

The tournament was played at TPC River Highlands, Cromwell, Connecticut.

A number of other players had chances to win but just were not up to the task today. Bubba Watson and Charlie Hoffman tied for tied for second place one stroke back. Bubba won the Travelers two years ago and was hoping for another win this year.

Although Bubba had 5 birdies and no bogies on the final round, he was not able to convert birdies on the crucial last 5 holes. He had a 17-foot birdie putt on 18 that would have put him in a playoff with Marc. But Bubba’s birdie put slid by 22 incnes beyond the hole. Bubba parred the hole making him tied for 2nd.

Charlie Hoffman was the leader until the final two holes, but then he double-bogied the 17th hole and bogied the 18th. Marc had turned in his astonishing 62 much earlier.

Precision Putting

Marc Leishman demonstrates the power of precision putting today. He wouldn’t have scored 62 and won the tournament without it.

Eighteen holes of golf allow 36 putts in regulation — two per hole. If you take more than 36 putts you really need to work on your putting. Tour professionals like to be in the 23 to 27 putts per round range.

You need a good putting grip, a good putting stroke, good reads of the green so you know exactly how your ball will roll from the moment you strike it to the moment it rolls into the hole. Everything is covered in Precision Putting DVD.
